Three Sunsets In Arches National Park (December 31, 2009 - January 2, 2010)

Arches National Park Sunset
December 31, 2009

I spent three days in Moab, Utah and each evening I photographed the sunset inside Arches National Park. Adjacent was the first night - just a few bright clouds over the rock ledge southeast of town. The rock structure on the right is known as the Three Penguins.

I spent a full afternoon visiting various arches including Sand Dune Arch, Broken Arch and Delicate Arch. As I returned to the main road from the Delicate Arch Spur Road, I noticed potential for a magical sunset. I "battled the sun" and came up with this creative shot. That pointed rock way out there is Ham Rock near the Garden of Eden area.

Sunset
The sunset was not very impressive. Yet I thought the subtle shades behind Balanced Rock were worthy enough to display. Arches National Park, UT

Utah Sunset
January 2, 2010

On my final night, I was determined to capture something decent. This photo was taken as I stood on the edge of the Windows Spur Road.

Utah Sunset I then positioned myself at the Balanced Rock area and included this rock formation located a short distance south of Balanced Rock. So pretty!
Arches National Park I traveled south and captured some remaining light near the Rock Pinnacles. (Photo was taken while sitting in my car with the camera in front of my windshield.)
Balanced Rock One (bad) token photo of myself in the Balanced Rock parking lot. I felt and looked like quite a tourist, which is fine. May I never look or act like someone who has become "used to" this stunning desert landscape!
